title row - ball  Round 6 Senior Report

1st XI Match Report

On the back of a good performance with the ball, a poor showing with the bat saw the Firsts go down the St Johns Tecoma by 35 runs. On a stinking hot day last week, we lost the toss and were asked to bowl in very trying conditions. In true spirit the boys rallied and put in a huge effort bowling St Johns out for 185 on a very quick Lakesfield oval. Scott Buckingham continued his great form with the ball picking up 5/64 from 19 overs. Demo gave support with 4/43 from 17 overs. After bowling St Johns out early we were left with an hour to bat, and we lost a few costly wickets finishing the day at 3/35. We went into day two confident that we could chase down the target on a ground that was still very quick. Pebble got a good one and was out first ball of the day which put us on the back foot early. St Johns bowled tight all day making scoring difficult, and that pressure caused us to lose regular wickets throughout the day. We only showed a couple of pockets of real resistance, Sean Alston put up a fighting effort at the end and was unlucky to be given out, and David Hill played a very gutsy long innings and top scored with 43. A great effort from David who showed us that grit and determination can carry you a long way. There's no doubt that the First XI has under performed so far this year, which has been disappointing for all of us given that we know we are capable of much much more. We are all determined to give that bit extra and give a true account of ourselves after Christmas. We believe in ourselves and each other, we will make our fortunes turn and come back from the break stronger and better than ever. Bring it on!!
