title row - ball  Round 5 Senior Report (Wk 1)

1sts Vs Mountain Gate at Mountain Gate - A positive day for the 1sts saw us compile 200 on the big ground at Mountain Gate. Tim Emmett and Chris Hill got us off to a good start putting on 53 for the first wicket. Tim fell for 24 and Chris went on to make 39. Spence was looking very dangerous before being unluckily run out for 11. Newly promoted Warwick Peluso and Tyden Latty then came together and put together an excellent 74 run partnership. We went into tea at 3/92 looking very good. After the break we lost Tyden for a very good 44, and Pebble the very next ball for 29. Some tight bowling from Mountain Gate and some consolidation by the batsmen meant we had to work hard for our after tea. Demo and Dave Hill put on 30 before Demo went out for 17, then Zeegs, Skip and Binksy all chipped in to get the score to 200. In his first game in the Knox Tavern Cup Buckers finished with a great 0 not out without facing a ball. A good all round effort on day one from everyone, but we will need to bowl and field very well next week to bring home a win.

2nds Vs Aura Vale at Aura Vale - This week we travelled to Auravale for our first away game for sometime. Stumpy won the toss and elected to field with plenty of confidence in his bowling attack. Dravi Smith and Burdo opened the bowling with Burdo getting instant success in his first over with two wickets - a great response after being left out of the firsts (2/6). Dravi then got wickets in both his 5th and 6th overs after being rewarded for bowling a really great line and length (4/30). To this stage all 4 batsmen had been caught by the Whitty boys with Nick taking the gloves for the game and Shannon at 1st slip. Their no. 4 & 6 batsmen then put together a 54 run partnership before Stumpy got the breakthrough with an edge to Burgo at 2nd slip (5/84). By this stage the ball had become wet and slippery after some unexpected rain and conditions became tough for bowling. Once again after being bought into the attack Shagga produced the goods and stemmed the flow of runs and took a good catch off his own bowling to dismiss their top scorer who had started to play some good shots (6/98). Stumpy then got two wickets in the minutes leading up to tea, one LBW and the other bowled which left the home side 8/106 at the break. Another caught and bowled for Shagga after tea (9/112) gave him four catches for the match and Burdo came back on and finished the opposition off with his lethal slower ball in his first over for 139.

Having to bat for 31 overs Azza in his 100th game and Donga Morris in his return to 2nd X1 cricket got us off to a perfect start with a 63 run opening partnership. Azza looked like the Azza of old playing his famous glide over gully and flick down leg for a well compiled 39 (1/63), including a big 6, before he got a leading edge back to the bowler - welcome back mate. Donga played some superb cut shots before being caught for 20 (2/65). Shagga (16 no) and Finchy (2 no) got us through to stumps on 2/82 and in a perfect position to attack next week. Another great day for the Beaver 2nds.
